20-day Nairobi to Livingstone with G Adventures We’ve always wanted to take an African adventure and given we had just received approval for a one-year leave of absence from work, this was the perfect opportunity. Deciding to GO was one major decision down. Who to go WITH was a much tougher decision and unfortunately, we were unable to find an abundance of resources online to help! We are hoping that this review will help those who… Read More

Livingstone, Zambia – Victoria Falls and Devil’s Pool October 28 – November 1, 2014 When crossing borders overland in Africa, it is critical that you have your documents in order. G Adventures lists all requirements on its website, so be sure to give it a read before joining the tour. We were delayed a couple of hours at the border because some members of the group were missing vaccination certificates.

Malawi October 21-25, 2014 Sometimes referred to as ‘Calendar Lake’ because it’s approximately 365 miles long and nearly 52 miles wide, Lake Malawi is known for a couple of things; one being its sheer size and two being that it is home to the most species of fish of any lake in the world. And after our visit there, it’s also famous for its lake flies. We spent four nights in Malawi… Read More

Zanzibar, Tanzania October 17-19, 2014 I’ll start by giving a little history of this beautiful country. Tanzania was known as ‘Tanyanika’ until 1964, when it was united with Zanzibar. The country was then re-named The United Republic of Tanzania, which explained the name of Lake Tanyanika, one of Africa’s great lakes.  Lake Tanyanika is the longest lake in the world, second deepest and bordered by four countries; Burundi, Congo (Democratic Republic), Tanzania, and… Read More

Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania October 15-17, 2014 Serengeti National Park with G Adventures I will never forget the initial descent down into the Serengeti after paying our park entrance fees. All you could see for hundreds of miles was what looked like dry grass that hadn’t seen water in months until it met the dark, greenish-grey clouds of the horizon; and although you couldn’t see them with the… Read More

To provide some context before getting into our Africa posts, we’ve included the below map to show our route through East Africa with G Adventures. This map shows our route from Nairobi to Livingstone. From Livingstone, we left our tour group and flew south to Cape Town. For our fellow Canadians, the distance travelled is equivalent to driving from St. John’s, NL to Winnipeg, MB.

Nairobi, Kenya October 11-13, 2014 Once the Captain turned on the seatbelt sign and announced our descent into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, he also turned on the butterflies in our stomachs. In four short hours we had gone from the glitz and glamour of Dubai to the grit and chaos of Nairobi. We were nervous, but prepared. Not just for Nairobi, but the for the upcoming 26-day journey that would take us some… Read More
