Our last two nights in Kuala Lumpur were spent at the beautiful JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur in KL’s city centre. This was a huge treat for us as we were able to get some solid sleep before we were off to our next destination. Plus, given its location, we were able to visit some of the last tourist items on our list in the city centre.

In the northern reaches of Vietnam, just east of Hanoi and not far from the Chinese Border lies the World Heritage Site, Halong Bay. Halong is a lock on every tourists Vietnam travel itinerary and if it’s not, it should be. The bay is massive and features nearly 2,000 limestone karsts (‘stacks’ or ‘islets’) that shoot up from the flat turquoise sea, in varying shapes and sizes. The bay is stunning, mystical, magical, eerie, you name it, all day and all year-long.

It was rainy season (February) when we visited and even then, the views were incredible. It was a little hazy at times, but that added to the serenity of the place; and despite the fact that the bay is filled with tour boats, you still feel like you are there alone.

New foods were no longer appealing and that cooking class we’d wanted to take, well, we just weren’t interested anymore. Instead, we craved some tastes from home, and spent our time watching one too many episodes of Castle on our laptop. Travel fatigue got us good.

January 2015 Similar to Halong Bay in the north, the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam is popular among tourists as there are numerous tour operators to choose from. It is a very popular tour, and rightfully so, as the Delta is famous for its extremely fertile surroundings that have provided a way of life for the Vietnamese for centuries.

Welcome to SAIGON!

January 2014

We felt our time in Chiang Mai was up and coincidentally, so were our one-month visas. We’d been there for almost a month and had been getting more lazy and unmotivated by the day. Not that Chiang Mai isn’t awesome, because it is. However, we knew it was time to get back to our non-stop travelling, last-minute booking, motivated selves. Vietnam it is.
